Update: 9:20 a.m.
Update: 8:30 a.m.
As everyone can see, the weather has shifted again. Forecasts this morning had called for this weather to ease off until later today/tonight. Decisions about closures come after consultations with road crews and reviewing weather forecasts very early in the morning. Unfortunately this weather is very unpredictable.
If you have already sent your children to school, or they are on the bus, our staff will take care of them for the day when they arrive.
However, if the weather and road conditions where you are located are not looking safe, please consider keeping your children home and staying off the roads. Safety is the priority.
We are monitoring the weather and road conditions carefully, and will update this page and our website throughout the day as needed. Please follow us on Facebook for more instant updates: https://www.facebook.com/CowichanValleySD79/
Please also note that all buses are experiencing delays. Of particular note:
- Routes 4 and 7 around Shawnigan Lake (East and West Shawnigan Lake Road) are delayed by at least 30-40 minutes, as the buses are currently delayed in Malahat traffic.
- Bus 40 (Lake Cowichan Route) is also experiencing delays.
- Bus 31 is currently broken down, but all children are being taken care of and will be safely delivered to another bus as soon as it arrives.
SCHOOL IS OPEN (Dec. 19, 2017)
Road crews assure us they are on top of keeping the roads clear and safe for travel. It appears the worst areas are the Malahat, Shawnigan Lake and Lake Cowichan. Buses are likely going to run a bit late in those areas most affected.
As always, parents are advised to make their own decisions regarding safety of travel depending on the conditions in their location.
Please remind children to use caution when walking to school or the bus stop. Drivers, please use extra caution!
