Recently, the Ministry of Education (MoE) presented school districts with a renewed curriculum that will transform and modernize the BC education system. This curriculum, referred to as Transformation in Curriculum and Assessment is intended to help educators create learning environments that are both engaging and personalized for students.
A new curriculum is an exciting prospect and provides many new learning opportunities. The BC Teachers’ Federation and the MoE have announced that school districts will be supported with professional learning time around orientation of the new curriculum. This professional learning time will be coming from instructional time.
The MoE has supported the use of 10 hours of instruction time to allow educators to explore the curriculum for the next three years, (2017-18 school year). Cowichan Valley Public Schools and the Cowichan Valley District Teachers’ Association continue to work together to plan for the non-instructional time.
