Celebrating World Teachers’ Day – October 5th

Celebrating our Teachers on World Teachers’ Day

On Friday, October 5, 2018 the Cowichan Valley School District (SD79) Board of Education, and the entire school district family, will be joining communities across the country in celebrating World Teachers’ Day.  Teachers in our school district will be recognized for their professionalism, dedication, and unique ways in which they empower our students and our communities each and every day.

Teaching is a profession that one chooses carefully, out of a passion and commitment to educational excellence for our students, and a desire to help our young people prepare for their futures.  It is a profession that requires a diverse set of competencies and abilities, including compassion, innovation, integrity, curiosity, and so many more.

Teaching has evolved greatly from the days of a one-room schoolhouse.  What used to be rows of desks and chalkboards has transformed into dynamic and ever-changing learning  environments that take place in our schools and throughout our communities.  It is a very exciting time to be a teacher and a learner in British Columbia and in the Cowichan Valley School District.  Our teachers are embracing the flexibility and creativity in the new curriculum, the increased opportunities to follow their interests and passions, and the opportunities to continue learning and growing as educators.

This year, we welcomed 25 new teachers from outside of the district and a number new to the profession.  We were happy to see many others pick-up continuing contracts or transfer into a position they were passionate and excited about.  We are lucky to have some of the best teachers in the country working with us, and we thank each and every one of them for choosing SD79.

Happy World Teachers’ Day to all of our wonderful teachers.  Thank you for everything you do to teach our learners and our communities.
