News Release – New Superintendent of Schools Appointed

The Cowichan Valley School District is pleased to announce that Rod Allen has been appointed Chief Executive Officer and Superintendent of Schools effective May 19, 2015.

Candace Spilsbury, the Chair of the Board, was pleased to confirm this appointment saying, “we are excited and confident that, with Rod’s leadership, Cowichan will be at the forefront of learning innovations that will benefit children across our communities.”

Rod Allen currently holds the position of Chief Superintendent of Learning and Assistant Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Education. Under his leadership, BC has become a major contributor to global transformation efforts and within our province he has set a clear path and high standards for education transformation – ensuring students have the opportunity to explore their passions and take ownership for their learning.

“Rod’s expertise and passion for student learning is well known in national and international circles.  While this will clearly benefit students here in Cowichan, I’m equally confident Rod will continue to influence the learning agenda for the benefit of students across our province,” said Spilsbury.

Rod is a Premier’s finalist in Leadership for his education transformation work. Previous to working with Government, Rod was a Superintendent in the Bulkley Valley.

“Joe Rhodes, the current Superintendent of Schools is retiring and we want to thank him for his contribution to our district and wish him all the best,” said Spilsbury.
