Happy Pride Month!
June 1 marks the start to International Pride Month, a month to recognize lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, Two-Spirit, intersex and asexual (LGBTQ2IA+) persons, and all the things they bring to our communities to make them vibrant.
Recognition under the law, and a month to celebrate LGBTQ2IA+ communities, was a hard-fought battle by these groups. We now pause to recognize their struggle and the continued discrimination that LGBTQ2IA+ face. As a public symbol of our allyship, the Board of Education is again flying the Pride flag on the Board Office Building.
We hope that our communities continue to be warm and welcoming places for everyone, including those whose struggles we recognize this month.
