District Assessments

When we know our learners well, we can offer a meaningful next-step for each of our students. Damian Cooper, a Canadian educator helps us connect curriculum and instruction with assessment. Damian states that assessment is a, “caring, sensitive process.” (Talk About Assessment: Strategies and Tools to Improve Learning, 2007).

Damian Cooper has 5 imperatives: curriculum must be meaningful, instruction must be responsive, assessment must be informative, grading must blend consistency and professional judgment, and communication must be truthful and transparent.

When we listen to our students, watch what they do and review their products, we have a better understanding of their abilities. SD79 District Assessments are tools to support teachers in finding the meaningful next-step for their learners.
