The concept of play is at the very core of Wendy’s House. The connections between make-believe play and early language and literacy development are well supported in research.
Additionally, children exercise both social and emotional self-regulation when they have to wait their turn or share toys. In fact, children often show greater self-regulation during play than at other times. When visiting please bring your child’s ID (birth certificate, status card, BC ID, or passport) with you when you come to play.
Look for the children’s mural between the School Board Office & Quamichan School.
Follows the School Calendar for non-instructional day/times.
Wendy’s House is named in memory of Wendy Erickson, who was an early learning advocate and coordinator for the school district. It was her dream to develop a play centre in the Cowichan Valley that was modelled after Munchkinland in Parksville. Look for her picture inside the centre.
Wendy’s House is closed to the public every Friday. This day of the week is utilized by our public school teachers and their classes to attend a free field-trip. If you are a teacher in the district and teach Kindergarten to Grade 2, please use this link to see Friday availability and book your field trip!
