Students in the Cowichan Valley School District are getting in the spirit for the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour, which is coming to the Cowichan Valley on Jan. 20-21, 2018.
On Friday, Dec. 15, George Bonner Elementary School welcomed 220 Grade 4-7 students who were representing their schools for a chance to play at the Rogers Hometown Hockey outdoor playoff on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 in the parking lot near the aquatic centre (by “the big hockey stick”).
Two floor hockey tournaments were held on Dec. 15: a morning tournament for Grade 4-5 students, which 10 elementary schools participated in, and an afternoon tournament for Grades 6-7, which 11 elementary schools participated in.
Each school sent approximately 12 students, which consisted of two lines and a full-time goalie. The games were refereed by teachers and principals and were 20 minutes in length. Lines were changed every two minutes to ensure fair play.
The top two teams in each division will represent their school and school community at the Rogers Hometown Hockey event. The top two teams for Grades 4-5 were Alex Aitken Elementary and Maple Bay Elementary, and the top two teams for Grades 6-7 were Bench Elementary and Lake Cowichan School. The teams will face off against each other on Jan. 20 to claim the top spot.
Come on down and support our kids during this fun event!
