Ready, Set, Learn
Ready Set Learn is a drop-in health and education fair that will help prepare your child for Kindergarten.
These are free, drop-in, and interactive events for caregivers and children ages 2-5.
- May 2025 – Make New Friends Swim for newly registered Kindergarten students for the 2025.2026 academic year
Wendy’s House
The concept of play is at the very core of Wendy’s House. The connections between make-believe play and early language and literacy development are well supported in research.
Additionally, children exercise both social and emotional self-regulation when they have to wait their turn or share toys. In fact, children often show greater self-regulation during play than at other times.
To register at your first visit please bring your child’s ID (birth certificate, status card, BC ID, or passport) with you when you come to play.

Ready, Set, Go to Kindergarten
Each school in our district hosts a “Ready, Set, Go” event to help ease the transition from home to school.
In the month of May, all Kindergarten students who have registered for school in September will be invited to attend the “Ready, Set, Go” event at their catchment school.
These events are a great way to introduce the child to the school setting, meet the teacher, and become familiar with the classroom environment. Children will participate in a variety of play based learning activities and take home a supply bag with book(s) and other literacy related supplies to help build confidence.
StrongStart Program(s)
StrongStart is a free, drop-in early learning program for children 5 and under and who are accompanied by a parent, or caregiver. Our programs offer “Drop-in” visit systems for families!
Parent Child Mother Goose Program
The Vancouver Island Regional Library and the Cowichan Valley Mother Goose Community Collective runs a FREE, 8-10 week group experience for babies, young children (0-4 years) and their parents/caregivers.
It is a well-recognized and respected oral language program that returns to tradition by using rhymes, songs and storytelling as a base for enriching parent-child lives and relationships. No toys, just parent and child having fun interacting together.
