Yong Zhao to visit Cowichan Valley School District

District Parents Advisory Council and the School District is co-hosting a free public presentation for parents and anyone interested in exciting new practices in education with globally renowned educational scholar and thoughtful leader, Yong Zhao. Dr. Zhao champions the 21st century educational transformation toward student centered, personalized learning. With extensive research, and on-the-ground examples, Zhao demonstrates how our schools can cultivate independent thinkers who are willing and able to use their learning differently to create jobs and contribute positively to the globalized society.

Yong Zhao states, “With the liberty to make meaningful decisions and explore nontraditional learning opportunities, today’s students will develop into tomorrow’s global leaders.” Dr. Zhao’s captivating presentation style will inform and entertain you while causing you to question some of your long-standing beliefs about education.

Dr. Zhao’s Cowichan visit includes a session for staff and a session with the District Student Advisory Council.

Candace Spilsbury, Board Chair comments, “Dr. Zhao’s work underwrites BC’s new, leading edge curriculum. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this rare opportunity to hear from one of education’s superstars.”

The public event is at the Quamichan Campus of Cowichan Secondary School on Beverly Street in the Theatre on Monday, February 29 at 7:00 pm.
